Babymoon #2?

Last year, before we commited ourselves to the process of seeing an RE, we went on a "babymoon."  I wanted one last big vacation before the chaos of infertility appointments consumed our lives.  We went on a Royal Caribbean cruise to the Caribbean, stopping in the Bahamas, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten.  Turns out we went right on time, because there was no way we could have left for vacation once we hopped on the crazy train and come August, we were pregnant.

Right before we left Port Canaveral (my favorite port!)

Coming up to CocoCay, Bahamas

We went kayaking and I SUCKED AT IT

Balcony - my favorite place to be :)

In St. Thomas, where the ocean meets an outdoor aquarium

Freedom of the Seas

Comimg up to St. Maarten, probably my favorite place in the Caribbean

I have a fear of heights, but I love scaring myself

That's us all the way up there, enjoying St. Maarten - also, overlooking a nude beach

I always imagined that we would bring Conner and Ben on tons of vacations, and they would get to love cruising the way that we do.  Now I feel like we should still go on these vacations we had planned, because Conner and Ben are still with us.  I feel like if all I do is stay home, they will only see home.  But if I travel the world, they will see the world as well.

We have gotten the clearance to start an FET from my OB, MFM, and RE.  The only thing is, I don't want to do it.  No way.  I'm scared.  Terrified, actually.  And there are no guarantees in this next pregnancy, only higher risks.  I don't feel ready emotionally or physically, so this is being put on hold indefinitely.

So in the meantime... babymoon #2.

Tim and I have been to the Caribbean twice, stopping in the Bahamas, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Cozumel, Haiti, and Jamaica.  We love going there for the warm (...hot) weather, sunshine, beaches, and quite frankly - the biggest, best cruise ships go to the Caribbean, and usually it is a reasonable price.  But we also have our sights set on Alaska (smaller ship, more than twice as much money to get our butts there...)

Ok, doesn't that look amazing???

Mountains, cool (but not unreasonable) weather, dog sleds, quaint towns, and whale watching.

Whale watching.

Want. Want. Want.

Tim has the end of April, all of May, and the beginning of June off (he rearranged some vacation days so that he could be home after the boys were supposed to be born).  Of course, this means I will be staring at my husband every night knowing that he's home because our sons should be home.  I think its a perfect time to get our butts off our couch and out of country, or at least out of the continental U.S.  It's the middle of March now, which means I needed to decide this like two months ago.  But I can't get myself to commit, because I find that I can never plan anything ahead of time anymore.  Now I think its a joke.  We planned on the boys being born at the end of April.  They came in January.

But now the snow is melting around here, and I think its time to plan this spring vacation.  Any opinions are welcome :)

  1. Honestly, the fear will never go away. I hate to say that. You could have 100 healthy, idyllic, text book pregnancies but because of the one that wasn't you will always be afraid. My only advice, not that you asked for it, is don't let the fear stop you from pursuing your dream-be aware of it but don't let it consume you. Now, enough of that--I love your idea of a cruise! Wish I could talk my hubby into one because it looks lovely!

    1. I know the fear won't go away. I think there will always be something to be scared about. I'm waiting for the fear to pass or at least lessen its immense power over me. Maybe then I can move forward.

  2. I don't know if you decided on your vacation destination yet, but I'm from Alaska, you should definitely go there sometime in your life. I've never been to most of the places in Alaska that you would visit on a cruise since there are no roads to them, but I know they are beautiful.

    1. That's so cool that you're from Alaska! We are planning on our next cruise to be to Alaska - whether that is this August or in a couple years, we don't know. But it is our "must do" list!
