I never sang to them
There was a song in my head that I always imagined I would sing to my boys the day they were born. I don't know why it was this song, but it was. There is a scene from the tv show ER where one of the doctors gives her baby up for adoption. She finally lets go of her son, hands him over to his mother, and his adoptive mom sings "baby mine." I always loved that scene. Maybe that is why I loved it so much. Or maybe because one of my favorite country bands, Shedaisy, sang it once. And when Conner and Ben were born, this song played in my head.
And I never sang it to them.
I don't know why. I wanted to. It seemed right. They could hear me. I only had so much time with them. It would have been a nice memory. But I didn't do it.
"Baby Mine"
Baby mine, don't you cry.
Baby mine, dry your eyes.
Rest your head close to my heart,
Never to part, baby of mine.
Little one, when you play,
Pay no heed what they say.
Let your eyes sparkle and shine,
Never a tear, baby of mine.
If they knew all about you,
They'd end up loving you too.
All those same people who scold you,
What they'd give just for the right to hold you.
From your head down to your toes,
You're not much, goodness knows.
But, you're so precious to me,
Sweet as can be, baby of mine.
"If they knew all about you, they'd end up loving you too." I sometimes think that my time writing here on this blog is done. But I'm not done talking about my boys yet, and I don't think I ever will be.

YES!!! Glad someone else knew. No one else knows or remembers this song.
DeleteVery sweet lyrics, and it seems suited perfectly for Ben and Conner. "If they knew all about you, They'd end up loving you too." - totally true. I never met them, but reading about them, I love those little guys so much. Keeping talking about them, you'll always have ears that want to listen <3
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for saying that. That means so much to me!
